Our Journey
Love Story
How We Met
Mateo: It all started with the sound of a steam wand and the smell of burnt espresso; I wasn't even there for the coffee. I was there because I’d seen this waitress who seemed to handle the morning rush like she was conducting an orchestra. Maya: He was so obvious. He’d sit at the corner table for two hours with a single black coffee, pretending to read a book but clearly just waiting for me to walk by. Finally, I just put his refill down and asked, 'Are you going to ask for my number, or are you just going to vibrate out of that chair from all the caffeine?
Our Story
After that first kiss, the cafe visits changed. Mateo wasn't just a customer anymore; he was the guy waiting by the door with an umbrella when Maya’s shift ended in the rain. Learning the Rythms: "We started folding our lives into each other," Mateo explains. "I learned that Maya needs three alarms to wake up, and she learned that I’m useless until I’ve had my first coffee—which she, of course, made better than anyone." The Shared Space: They moved from park dates to grocery shopping together. "There’s something surprisingly romantic about arguing over which brand of pasta to buy," Maya laughs. "That’s when you know it’s real."
The First Date
June 10, 2025
Maya: Our first real date was in the city park, I wanted to see him outside of that crowded cafe. We walked for miles—past the duck ponds, through the rose gardens, and into the deep wooded trails where the city noise just disappears. Mateo: I remember how the light hit the trees. It was one of those perfect spring days where everything is impossibly green. We didn't even realize we’d been walking for four hours until the sun started to dip. Maya: We talked about everything. No small talk. It felt like we’d known each other for years by the time we reached the park gates.
That First Kiss

Mateo: The air was cooling down, and we were standing right by her apartment entrance under this old, flickering streetlamp. There was this long silence where neither of us wanted to say goodnight. Maya: And then he finally stopped talking and just kissed me. It wasn't like a movie—it was better. It was the moment I knew I wasn't going to let him go.
The Sunset Question
August 1, 2025
Mateo: We were on the beach. I had the ring hidden in my pocket for three days, waiting for the sky to look exactly right. Just as the sun was hitting the horizon—turning the whole ocean into liquid gold—I got down on one knee in the sand. Maya: I couldn't even hear what he was saying over the waves at first, but I saw his face, and I saw the ring, and I just started nodding. It was the easiest 'yes' I’ve ever said
